Two initiatives have been developed since 2009 to create a centre of excellence in athletics in Bradford and Keighley, bringing together expert personnel and good-quality training facilities at Bradford College, the University of Bradford, Bradford Grammar School and University Academy Keighley. Together they form an athletics academy focused on the 14-25 age-group and adult runners, catering for jumping and throwing, sprinting and longer-distance running.
Athletics for 14-25 Year-Olds
SportsShare & Airedale Athletics, with the assistance of Bradford-Airedale AC, the University of Bradford, Bradford College and thanks to some major financial support from England Athletics, established in 2010 an athletics programme aimed at 14-25 year-olds. It doesn’t matter whether you are a student at university, college or sixth-form, a young adult in work or training or seeking work, you’re welcome.
We offer five sessions a week, Mondays to Thursdays, throughout the academic and school year, and can cater for sprinters, distance runners, jumpers and throwers, plus anyone wanting to get fitter through the three strength-and-conditioning sessions.
Enhanced Training for Runners
Few runners have the benefit of expert guidance in strength and conditioning, so that they can build up their core strength so that they can run more effectively and enjoyably, nor in drills, exercises and interval training, so that they can learn to run faster than race pace and take their running to a higher level.
Most runners who take up the sport as adults have not had the benefit of training in drills, injury prevention, race techniques, and planning of training. Our expert coaches can help in all these aspects.
These sessions supplement regular training runs, on your own, or in groups or clubs. And they also offer testing sessions, workshops and other support for anyone wanting to improve their knowledge and practice of running. It’s not just a case of putting one foot in front of the other, unfortunately!
